The vineyards are to be found on the sun-exposed hillsides of the area. Added to this factor is the altitude which gives the grapes an excellent balance of acidity and ripeness. The end result are wines ideally suited for ageing. The grape varieties Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo, Viura and Malvasia grow on old vines perfectly suited to the local environment.

Most of the thirty hectares of vineyards are organic; organic fertilizers are used, not herbicides or synthesised chemicals. At Biurko Gorri, the production of organic grapes stems from a deep-rooted family tradition. It aims to obtain a quality product while respecting the natural cycles of the vines. The wines made from these grapes go on sale under the Denominación de Origen Ecológica as well as the D.O.C. Rioja.

They are pruned to enable the use of modern machinery and growing methods. At Biurko Gorri the word “organic” is a synonym of quality and respect for nature. These two concepts should always go together and thus form the pillars of modern viticulture and winemaking to the ultimate benefit of consumers.
